No one wants to hear that they need to wear a swimming cap to maintain their hair color, but unfortunately it really does help. Both chlorine and salt water can negatively impact your hair color, and hence having a barrier in the form of a swimming cap can prevent any impact. If this is just too much to ask, then at least try and rinse your hair with clean water as soon as you're done swimming. It's also not a bad idea to put a deep conditioner before diving in.
